  • Nutrition: Chickweed is an excellent source of vitamins A, D, B complex, C, and rutin (an accompanying flavonoid), as well as iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, zinc, manganese, sodium, copper, and silica.

    Medicinal: The whole plant is used in alternative medicine as an astringent, (contracts or shrinks tissues used to decrease secretions or control bleeding), carminative ( mild sedative or hypnotic properties), demulcent (an oily or mucilagininous substance that soothes irritated tissue), diuretic ( promotes urine production and flow), expectorant (increases bronchial secretions and facilitates their expulsion through coughing), laxative (gently promotes bowel movements), refrigerant, vulnerary (the treatment of healing wounds). 

    A decoction of the whole plant is taken internally as post-partum depurative, emmenagogue, galactogogue (increases secretion of milk) and circulatory tonic. 

    It is also used to relieve constipation. Improves bowel health and symptoms of constipation. Colon cleanse, when taken regularly, chickweed will promote digestion and improve a number of stomach related conditions.

    Improves symptoms of asthma and other respiratory complications. Since chickweed is known to target inflammation. It is believed that the major issue surrounding asthma is immunological, a compound in chickweed known as coumarin is believed to be a potential treatment for asthma, as well as conditions caused by a compromised lymph system. Also based on the saponins found in chickweed, this herb can reduce thickened membranes in the lungs and throat, improving ones ability to breathe. Since the chemical constituents also fight inflammation and infection, chickweed is able to target a range of respiratory ailments. A Chickweed Tea or tincture is an ideal solution.
